Club Career

Club(s) Began his professional career with Aldershot FC in 1927, before joining Northampton Town FC in 1929. Made 164 league appearances and scored 82 goals. Crystal Palace FC signed Dawes on 22 December 1933 and he made 105 league appearances and scoring 75. Joined Luton Town AFC in 1936 for 44 league appearances, scoring eighteen, before returning to Palace fifteen months later, on 18 February 1938, making a final 44 league appearances, scoring sixteen goals. He was sold back to Aldershot FC on 1 June 1939. The war did little to curtail his football career, as he returned to Palace during the hostilities, scoring a further 74 goals in 142 appearances.
