Club Career

Club(s) Played junior football in Stoke before signing as an apprentice with Stoke City FC, turning professional on 6 February 1980. After 129 league appearances and five goals, he joined Sunderland AFC on 1 July 1983 for £225,000. He made 38 league appearances, scoring four goals. He joined Everton FC on 25 May 1984 for £425,000, making 95 league appearances, scoring seven goals. He returned to Sunderland AFC on 23 August 1989 for £250,000, and made another 113 league appearances, scoring another nine goals. Bracewell then signed for Kevin Keegan's Newcastle United FC for £250,000 on 16 June 1992. He made 73 league appearances, scoring three goals. On 23 May 1995, he returned to Sunderland AFC under Peter Reid  for £100,000 as player-assistant manager. He made another 77 league appearances before Bracewell then rejoined Kevin Keegan at Fulham FC in an identical capacity for £75,000 on 10 October 1997, working under Ray Wilkins. He had turned down the Stoke City FC managers job in July 1997. He scored once in 62 league appearances before retiring in 1999.

Management Career

Club(s) When Keegan left Fulham to take on the England job on a permanent basis, Bracewell was left to guide the Cottagers through the 1999-2000 season, and although they enjoyed life in the top half of the division, he was sacked on 30 March 2000, in favour of Jean Tigana. He returned to management with Halifax Town FC in October 2000 until he resigned in September 2001, despite saving them from relegation. Appointed first team coach of Walsall FC on 18 February until 16 April 2004.

Beyond England

Bracewell took a job at the FA as a coach working with top youngsters from ages 16-20 until March 2012. At the same time he set up the Complete Football Academy in Gosforth, Newcastle where kids aged 5-6 up to non-league players practice their skills. Bracewell has been a director for six years.
