Ashley Cole Was stretchered off during Chelsea's 3-0 win over Blackburn Rovers.  Jose Mourinho . said: "He has a problem in the knee, I don't know what. He cannot walk so it must be something serious.  We will have to wait a couple of days before we know what it is. But this kind of injury normally ends in surgery, so I fear the worst." Cole, 26, is expected to have scans on the injury later today.  And it is feared that they will show the injury will keep him out for the rest of the season.

Matthew Upson has signed for West Ham United from Birmingham City for an initial fee of £6m.  The central defender has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the fee rising to £7.5m depending on appearances.  Birmingham had rejected bids of £4m and £6m for the 27-year-old, who had made it clear he would not sign a new deal with the Blues. Owen Hargreaves is finally ready to return to action for Bayern Munich on Friday after four months on the sidelines.  The 25-year-old is back in training after recovering from a broken leg he suffered in September, and should play some part against Nuremburg.  "I've trained and not suffered any setbacks.  I have been very patient over four months and a realistic target to return is Friday.  I need to work on my endurance and some last minute things."

Thursday, 25th January

Peter Taylor has stepped down from his role as England Under-21 coach.  The 54-year-old was dividing his time between the under-21s and managing Crystal Palace but said he wanted to concentrate on the Championship club.  "I can't do it anymore and devote my time to helping the team ahead of June's European Under-21 Championship in Holland.  Anybody coming in would have to commit a lot to the job. I'm sad but I've had a great time with England.  I'm proud of having seen some players go on to the senior squad."
Ray Parlour has been released by Middlesbrough after two-and-a-half years at the Riverside.  The 33-year-old midfielder played 60 games for Boro after arriving on a free transfer from Arsenal in July 2004.  Gareth Southgate said "Ray helped us in our first season of European football and helped us reach our highest league position."  Former England player Parlour is set to return to London in order to train with the Gunners and regain his fitness.  He suffered from injuries during his time at Boro, which included over three months out last season because of knee cartilage damage.  Parlour won 10 caps for England and was unlucky not to play a part in Euro 2000, with a knee injury forcing him to withdraw from the squad.
Ugo Ehiogu has finally made his move north of the border to Rangers on an initial 18 month contract.  "I'm really pleased to be here, although I'm still taking in my surroundings given the place's size.  I just want to thank everyone at Middlesbrough for their professionalism in their handling of me."

Tuesday, 23rd January

England's away Euro 2008 qualifier against Andorra on 28 March will take place in Barcelona.  The national stadium in Andorra holds just 1,800 and their Football Association had appealed to Uefa to switch the game.  Uefa's executive committee will reach its decision soon and was expected to approve the plan.  The match woill then be played at Espanyol's Olympic Stadium, which has a much larger capacity.  The Football Association has backed Andorra's application.

Monday, 22nd January

Ugo Ehiogu has agreed a deal to join Rangers and passed a medical with the Ibrox club.  The 34-year-old has some issues to resolve with Middlesbrough before his registration is completed.  But former England centre-back Ehiogu will train with his new team-mates on Tuesday and should be available for Saturday's clash with Hearts.  The Glasgow club's manager, Walter Smith, told Rangers World: "He will give us a bit of steel and experience."  Rangers expect the move to be ratified in the next couple of days.
Stephen Warnock has joined Blackburn Rovers from Liverpool.  Blackburn boss Mark Hughes will use the 25-year-old as a replacement for Lucas Neill, who has joined West Ham United.  "He has Champions League experience and has played a decent amount of Premier League games as well.  He is naturally left-footed which gives us balance on the left side which we didn't have with Lucas Neill.  I just like his attitude to the game. He wants to get up to people, to put pressure on people and really he just fits the bill as far as I'm concerned.  Liverpool really appreciated the qualities that he has and they weren't too keen on allowing a good young English player to leave their football club.  I think that is the reason maybe the deal hasn't been done before."

Sunday, 21st January

Premiership Wayne Rooney opens the scoring in the big match at Emirates Stadium, but Manchester United still lose 2-1 to Arsenal.  Elsewhere, Andrew Johnson is stretchered off with a suspected broken ankle in Everton's 2-0 victory at Wigan Athletic.

But Bayern director-general Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insists it is "out of the question" that the 25-year-old will leave during the January window.

Wednesday, 17th January

David Dunn has chosen to join his former club Blackburn Rovers, confirm Birmingham City, for an undisclosed fee.  Dunn's decision has angered Bolton manager Sam Allardyce who thought he had captured the 27-year-old.  Birmingham City boss Steve Bruce said: "He's a Blackburn lad and wants to go back there and play for his hometown club again."  Dunn added: "I am back at the club I've always supported. As soon as Blackburn came in for me, my mind was made up.  It feels really good to be back. It has been a hectic week but I am glad it is all done and I am back in Blackburn.  I am really pleased now that it has all come to a head and I've signed that piece of paper."
Micah Richards says he intends to stay with Manchester City "for years to come" despite continued speculation about his future.  The 18-year-old right-back signed a four-year contract at the club last summer, but has been repeatedly linked with a move to Chelsea.  "I'm a Manchester City player, so hopefully I'll be here for years to come."

Tuesday, 16th January

David Dunn looks set to join Bolton Wanderers from Birmingham City in a £2.2 million deal.  City boss Steve Bruce said: "As we speak, Dunny is in talks with Bolton. We have been told he has passed all tests as part of the medical. Blackburn have been in contact in the last hour, but I think it is too late. Dunny has already decided he is going down the route of signing for Bolton and in any case Blackburn still haven't met our valuation of the player."
Peter Davenport has been named as the new manager of Conference side Southport.  Davenport, who had a spell with Port 10 years ago, leaves his job as manager of UniBond League side Colwyn Bay.  "He knows the club and he is looking to come in and strengthen the squad with immediate effect," chief executive Hayden Preece said.  "We are looking for Peter to take us out of this situation and project the club forward."

David Beckham will not play for Real Madrid again after agreeing to sign for Los Angeles Galaxy.  Coach Fabio Capello said: "Beckham will train with the team but he won't play.  He has always been a great professional, but a player who has such an important contract with another club, we cannot count on him. The fact he wanted to go was down to him, not to me."  Galaxy may now even look to take him to California in time for the start of the MLS season in April.

Friday, 12th January

Alan Thompson has left Celtic and joined Championship side Leeds United.  The 33-year-old has completed a medical, but Thompson will have to wait for his debut with Leeds' clash at Birmingham called off.  Thompson has not featured for the Scottish champions this campaign but made over 200 appearances and scored 51 goals for Celtic.  He has signed initially on loan until the end of the season.

Thursday, 11th January

David Beckham will leave Real Madrid and join Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy at the end of the season.  The 31-year-old former England captain will sign a five-year deal, reportedly worth £128m.  Beckham said: "This week Real asked me to make a decision regarding their offer to extend my contract.  After considering several options to stay in Madrid or join other major British and European teams, I have decided to join LA Galaxy.  I would like to thank the supporters and people of Madrid who have made my family and I feel so welcome in my time here, making this an extremely difficult decision to make.  I have enjoyed my time in Spain enormously and I am extremely grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity to play for such a great team and their amazing fans.  I am proud to have played for two of the biggest clubs in football and I look forward to the new challenge of growing the world's most popular game in a country that is as passionate about its sport as my own.  For the rest of this season I will continue to give 100% to my coach, team-mates and fans as I believe Fabio Capello will bring this club and its supporters the success they truly deserve."

Wednesday, 10th January

David Beckham's future at Real Madrid remains unclear after reports that the Spanish club would not offer the former England captain a new contract.  Predrag Mijatovic, Real's sporting director, was reported to have told Sky Italia there would be no new contract.  However, Mijatovic later said his words had been mistranslated and he actually said: "Beckham's contract has not been renewed, yet."  Talks regarding a new two-year deal are set to resume tomorrow.  Beckham's spokesman Simon Oliveira said Real's offer for Beckham, whose contract expires in June, is "still on the table", although the player has been allowed to speak to other clubs since 1 January about a possible move.  An exit from the Bernabeu seemed likely, earlier on Wednesday, when Mijatovic was quoted as telling Sky Italia television: "Beckham will leave us, we will not renew his contract with the club."

Tuesday, 9th January

Carling Cup Robbie Fowler and another spectacular goal from Steven Gerrard are two of Liverpool's three goals, but it is not enough to compete with the six that Arsenal scored.
John Terry has been fined £10,000 and reprimanded by the Football Association after being charged with improper conduct.  After being sent off in the 2-1 defeat at Spurs, Terry claimed referee Graham Poll gave him conflicting reasons for the second yellow card he received.  Terry initially requested a personal hearing, but later accepted the charge.  An FA Disciplinary Commission statement said: "We were extremely disappointed the integrity of Poll was questioned.  We note the late admission to the charge and the excellent previous disciplinary record of John Terry.  But we are also disappointed that no public apology had been forthcoming for his admitted improper conduct."
David Beckham must make a decision about his future, according to Real Madrid sporting director Pedja Mijatovic has said.  The 31-year-old's existing deal at the Bernabeu expires in June and the former England captain is now free to negotiate with other clubs.  "Next week we will deal with this matter.  He wanted some time to think about it but we are in a situation where we lack time and we have to react now."
Trevor Sinclair has set his sights on winning a new contract at Manchester City.  The 33-year-old's deal ends in the summer but he hopes his performances between now and then will persuade boss Stuart Pearce to keep him.  Sinclair, who has struggled with a knee injury this term, said: "I need to show some good form between now and the end of the season.  Perhaps then I can twist the manager's arm to keep me on."

Monday, 8th January

Aaron Lennon has signed a new five-and-a-half year contract, which keeps him at White Hart Lane until 2012.  Since joining from Leeds United in July 2005, the 19-year-old has made 48 appearances and scored four goals, as well as earning seven England caps.  Manager Martin Jol told the club website:- "He is a great talent now and there is so much more still to come.  He is a prime example of the exciting talent we are attracting to the club.  Aaron has taken his chances and made himself into a regular first-team player in a short space of time and we often forget how young he still is."
John Terry has admitted a FA charge of improper conduct after being sent off in the 2-1 loss at Tottenham Hotspur.  Terry claimed referee Graham Poll gave him conflicting reasons for the second yellow card he received in the match.  Terry also dropped his request for a personal hearing and an FA disciplinary hearing on Tuesday will decide what punishment he should receive.  Terry is currently out of action after undergoing back surgery.  The FA brought the charge on the basis that comments Terry made on Chelsea's own television channel questioned the referee's integrity.  "Terry claimed in an interview, which was widely reported, that Poll had given him conflicting reasons for his second yellow card, saying: 'On the pitch, Graham Poll said to me that it was for the barge on Hossam Ghaly where I just kept running, then, after the game, he then said to me it was for the fall when me and Ledley King fell so, you know, he's obviously had a look at it, or got people to look at it and decided that's probably the best option for him and it covers every angle for him.'"  Poll denied Terry's claim and was cleared of saying anything inappropriate towards any Chelsea players during the match.

Saturday, 6th January

FA Cup Third Round Very few shocks to be noted.  A Frank Lampard hat-trick ensured Chelsea's progression at the expense of Paul Ince's Macclesdfield Town, Shaun Wright-Phillips also grabbed a rare goal, Chelsea won 6-1.  Steve McClaren took the opportunity to watch his old club, Middlesbrough, managed by Gareth Southgate, as they took on Hull City the game ended as a 1-1 draw.  Dion Dublin scored two as Norwich City ended Tamworth's dreams, City won 4-1.  Kieron Dyer scored as Newcastle United drew with Birmingham City 2-2.  Andrew Cole's opening goal for Portsmouth was enough to knockout Wigan Athletic, winning 2-1.  Peter Taylor's Crystal Palace beat Swindon Town 2-1.  Mark Wright's Chester City managed to hold Ipswich Town to a scoreless draw.  John Gregory's Queens Park Rangers also drew, 2-2 with Luton Town.  Dennis Wise and his Leeds United side were not so lucky, losing 3-1 to West Bromwich Albion.

Friday, 5th January

Owen Hargreaves is for sale, but not for less than £20 million.  Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer told German newspaper Bild that if an offer of that size was tabled "we would have to think about it.  That is a figure that would allow us to be active in the transfer market."  Hargreaves has just been told that he is not ready to return to full training as he recovers from a broken leg.
David Unsworth has joined Wigan Athletic from Sheffield United.  Unsworth, 33, moves on a free transfer from the Blades where he has spent the last 18 months, although he has not played for the club since October.  Unsworth has spent 11 years in two spells with Everton, and also played for West Ham United, Portsmouth and Ipswich Town.
Darren Bent's injury could force his manager, Alan Pardew to listen to offers for the England international.  Bent, 22, is sidelined with a knee problem that could keep him out of action until mid-February.  He said: "There has been some interest in Darren. A short time ago, my decision would have been to say quite categorically he wasn't going anywhere.  But his knee injury has made me think a bit differently."

Thursday, 4th January

Paul Ince has landed the League Two Manager of the Month award for December.  Ince has triggered a change in fortune since taking over Macclesfield Town in October which has seen Town haul themselves off the bottom of the table.  In December Macclesfield won five out of six League games in an eight-game unbeaten run.  Their victories included a crucial win over Torquay United, who are also fighting to retain their Football League status.

Wednesday, 3rd January

David Beckham will hold talks with Real Madrid next week over their offer of a new two-year contract.  The former England skipper is out of contract at the Bernabeu in June.  His spokesman, Simon Oliveira, said "There is a significant deal on the table from Real. It's slightly more than he's currently on.  They are the only club we are genuinely talking to at the moment and another meeting is scheduled for the second week of January.  The primary reason for any decision David makes will be a footballing one.  Decisions about his image rights and salary are obviously important, but they are not deal breakers."  Under Fifa guidelines, Beckham has been able to openly negotiate with other clubs from 1 January because he is in the final six months of his contract.  Major clubs from England, Spain, France and Italy have already expressed an interest in the 31-year-old midfielder.  Oliveira said there was no chance that Beckham would leave the Bernabeu during the current transfer window.  "David intends to play a major role for Real Madrid for the remainder of the season.  He wants to take time over this decision. It will be the last significant deal of his football career. He will know by March what he is going to do."

Tuesday, 2nd January

Lee Bowyer is likely to be ruled out for six weeks after dislocating his shoulder during West Ham United's 6-0 defeat to Reading.  The 29-year-old sustained the injury early in the first half after falling awkwardly under a challenge.  "Lee sustained a dislocation to the right shoulder and he wil be in a brace for around three weeks.  We're probably looking at a spell of six weeks before he's fit to play."
Darren Bent will be out of action for four weeks after suffering a knee injury in Charlton Athletic's win over Aston Villa.  "We're all gutted. The other players must show they can cope without him."
John Terry is set to play in a behind-closed-doors friendly later this week as he continues his recovery from back surgery.  Terry underwent a successful operation just last Thursday to cure his troublesome back injury.  But the central defender took part in a full lunchtime training session on Monday and will feature in a secret reserve match.  He hopes to return in time for next week's Carling Cup tie against Wycombe Wanderers.  Terry will also be aiming to be fully fit ahead of England's clash against Spain at Old Trafford on 7 February.
