Personally, I am not one for games ~ PC,
DVD or otherwise, but when Susie Hamilton of Cirlce-plc got in touch and asked
me to take a look, I did so sceptically. After all, there is enough
going on in the real world to keep us busy than to start delving into the
world of fantasy and cyber-reality.
Still, it was an interesting trip.
And I have only skimmed the surface. The best way to describe this
interactive game is 'playing football by knowing football' - You basically
have to answer the questions correctly to get anywhere, and rather than go
back a square, or not progress at all, you risk losing possession, and you
will not get possession back until you answer a question correctly. And
that is what makes this game exciting and addictive. Because you can
build up play before scoring a goal, and rather relying on skill and a
flexible thumb - you rely on brain power and enjoyment from watching brilliant
clips from World Cup's of the past.
I have only skimmed the very surface of
this, I entered at quarter-final stage, and you can choose between eight
countries, Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Germany, Holland, Italy,
Mexico, Portugal and Spain. I, representing England, managed top score
one past Portugal before having to abandon myself, but who-know's - I could
have made the final, because there are penalty shoot-outs too.
There is too much to comprehend in a package like this - which is why I have
eight copies to give away. Check out the
competition page.
