Wednesday, 9 November 2022 - US head coach Gregg Berhalter today made some selection shocks, as US Soccer announced the 26 players called up to represent the United States at the FIFA World Cup this month. Haji Wright, Jordan Morris and Shaq Moore were the biggest surprises to be included. Antalyaspor's 24-year-old Wright was a shock name when announced in the team but he is the second top scorer in the Turkish Super Lig and currently in excellent form. While Seattle Sounders' Morris and Nashville SC's Moore have worked their way in.
Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic has been included. Of the 26 players in the squad 25 will make their World Cup debut after the USA did not qualify for the 2018 tournament in Russia. Leeds duo Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson have also earned call-ups. Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner, who signed for the Gunners this summer, is also included having made four appearances for the London club. Manchester City goalkeeper Zack Steffen, who moved to Middlesbrough on loan this season to secure more playing time before the World Cup, has been left out. Steffen is usually regarded as Gregg Berhalter's first-choice keeper but the head coach said the lean is towards Matt Turner being his number one. "I think in some of the cases it's more about what we have than what we don't have. With the three goalkeepers we have on the roster we feel great," Berhalter added. Defender DeAndre Yedlin is the only World Cup veteran in the squad - the right-back made his debut as a 20-year-old at Brazil 2014.

Monday, 14 November 2022 - The United States' national team have made a huge statement at the World Cup in Qatar by redesigning their crest to incorporate the rainbow flag, in a bid to show solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. The tournament has been hugely controversial in its build-up, given Qatar's human rights record and attitude to homosexuality. As recently as this month, a Qatar World Cup ambassador told a German TV broadcaster that homosexuality was 'damage to the mind', and it remains illegal to be gay in the conservative Muslim country. The team appear to have made an immediate stand on their arrival in Doha, though, by changing the usual red stripes on their crest to a rainbow around their team base. The US team trained at the Al Gharrafa SC Stadium in Ar-Rayyan, and showed a huge US crest on the wall, alongside the slogan 'One Nation'. It is understood the crest on the team's kits on the field won't be changed, but the new colors will be shown off at their practice facilities.

Sunday, 20 November 2022 - The United States news conference began with the news that Leeds United's Tyler Adams will captain the the team for the duration of the Tournament.
Weston McKennie (thigh) and Sergino Dest (adductor) are fitness concerns ahead of their World Cup opener tomorrow, but coach Berhalter is confident that both players will feature.

Monday 21 November 2022 - United States 1 Wales 1 - Gareth Bale rode to Wales' rescue once again as the captain's late penalty salvaged a draw against the United States in his country's first World Cup game for 64 years. Wales were listless and overrun in a first half dominated by a vibrant USA team, who led as Tim Weah finished smartly after a surging run and pass by Christian Pulisic. The half-time introduction of striker Kieffer Moore revitalised Wales, whose newfound energy and purpose turned a one-sided affair into a genuine contest as Ben Davies and Moore both came close to equalising. Then with nine minutes left, the hitherto anonymous Bale was clattered in the box by Walker Zimmerman before confidently whipping his penalty into the net to send the travelling Welsh supporters behind that goal into raptures. Wales finished the game strongly, buoyed to have secured a point on their long-awaited World Cup return when they had appeared to be heading for a defeat which would have left them staring at an early exit from the competition.
