Diary

Monday, 10 May 2010 - Japan coach Takeshi Okada has named four European-based stars in his final 2010 World Cup squad of 23.  Keisuke Honda of CKSA Moscow, Grenoble's Daisuke Matsui and Makoto Hasebe of VfL Wolfsburg have all made the cut as has Takayuki Morimoto of Serie A outfit Catania.  Shunsuke Nakamura and Junichi Inamoto returned from Europe to the J-League earlier this season in order to get more playing time under their belts and are also part of the 23. The one surprise at the press conference in Tokyo was the inclusion of veteran goalkeeper Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi as third goalkeeper.  Japan have been drawn in Group E along with the Netherlands, Denmark and Cameroon.  The Samurai Blue kick off their preparations against Korea Republic on May 24 before heading to Europe and matches with England and Ivory Coast.

Monday, 24 May 2010 - An early goal from Park Ji-sung and a late penalty from Park Chu-young gave Korea Republic a 2-0 win over Japan in Saitama Stadium on Monday evening.
