Diary

Wednesday, 2 October 2002 - Slovakia coach Ladislav Jurkemik has named his 18-man squad for the upcoming Euro 2004 qualifier against England. There are six changes to the squad defeated by Turkey last month. Middlesbrough striker Szilard Nemeth, who has hit three Premiership goals this season, gets a chance to face with his club manager and England coach, Steve McClaren, after missing the trip to İstanbul. Two players familiar to English fans to be left out of the squad are Stanislav Varga, the former Sunderland defender, and West Ham United's Vladimir Labant. They can probably look at their lack of first team football recently as the reason.

Wednesday, 9th October 2002 - Ladislav Jurkemik has added Sparta Praha defender Martin Petráš to his squad. "He has played and is playing well...I needed to complete the defence and Petráš is a good solution." Petráš, who last played for the Slovak side in its home 4-1 win over Uzbekistan in May, has just recovered from a broken bone in his hand.
