Monday, 8 October 1984 - Liverpool midfield man Sammy Lee, substituted in Saturday's disappointing draw against West Bromwich Albion, has been omitted from the England squad for the Wembley World Cup clash against Finland. Apart from missing the May internationals because of assisting Liverpool in the European Cup Final, Lee had been an ever-present in the squad since scoring on his debut against Greece in 1982. The versatility of Tottenham'sGary Stevens has odged out Lee. It means that full-back Alan Kennedy is the only Anfield player in the 22-strong party named today by Bobby Robson. Arsenal's captain Graham Rix is recalled, while Graham Roberts, Steve Hunt, Gary Lineker, Luther Blissett andGary Bailey, have all been left out.
