Match Report

After a barren summer, the consequence of failure to qualify for the World Cup 1974 finals in West Germany,  England, led by new manager Don Revie and adorned in new strip, resumed competitive play with a convincing European Championship qualifying victory over Czechoslovakia.  The Czechs had also missed the World Cup finals, finishing a single point behind Scotland in their three-team qualifying group because they could only draw in Denmark while the Scots won there.  The ease of England's victory was, however, no indication of things to come.  Eventually the Czechs won the group, thereby eliminating second-place England, and went on to win the European Championship of 1976, besting West Germany on penalty kicks after an extra time 2-2 draw in the final in Belgrade.

Match report to come.

Source Notes

We have only the year of birth for some Czechoslovakia players, not the month and day, and so we are able to specify their ages only within a two-year span, as in 26/27.
